Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), former CEO of FTX cryptocurrency exchange, has risen to infamy with the collapse of the FTX exchange where he has allegedly stolen billions and billions of dollars from investors and crypto users. Since then, he has become one of the most wanted people in crypto - with everyone looking for him to help bring him to justice for fraud charges.
It all started when Bankman-Fried created the crypto exchange FTX to make trading easier for professional investors. The platform made it easy for investors to quickly trade coins and find market data. SBF decided that if he couldn't get professional investors on the exchange he would make his own token and get them to come that way - he called the token FTT.
As it turned out, FTT had no utility and it didn't have any use cases outside of being a speculative asset. It had no real value - yet SBF still managed to get people on board with the idea that FTT would be worth something one day. He did this by making promises that he knew he couldn't keep. Then he would use the FTT token to pump up the exchange using it as collateral, setting up a Ponzi scheme. He would also use customer funds and investor funds to make shady investments, additionally it's said he just outright stole these funds for himself personally and for others close to him.
